A single origin tea, Toyota was developed by the Saitama Tea Research Institute in 1976 but is now an endangered species with only a few farmers growing it in Japan. It has a refreshing astringency and bitterness, with a rich taste. This is a unique tea with a milky flavour that you can feel down your throat.
No additives such as sugar, flavors, or seasonings are used.
The astringency and bitterness of Japanese tea comes from a component called catechin.
Catechins are a type of polyphenol with strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

About “Nakajima-en” an “Toyoka”.
Nakajima-en is one of the pioneering tea farms that started to produce tea in the 19c. Although “Toyoka” was developed to make gyokuro, this variety is now almost disappearing, because gyokuro has not been cultivated so much in Sayama. As you can guess from the fact that “Toyoka” was developed for gyokuro, it has strong umami and a little astringency. The color is clear green. You will love the fragrance of greenery.
